Before: a too-long curtain piled on the floor, its hem filthy with dust and hair. After: the same curtain with a neat hem just above the floor
  • Stick it on by hand. Measure, stick, peel, press. No needle and no sewing machine.
  • No iron, no heat. Nothing hot goes near your curtains or a blackout backing.
  • Goes in the wash. Designed for machine washing and drying. You can iron over the hem too.
  • Three widths, 9.1 m (10 yd) a roll. 1 cm, 2 cm and 3 cm. Pick 3 cm for heavy and blackout curtains.

A dragging hem turns into a dust mop

You hung the new curtains, stepped back, and the bottom few inches are lying on the floor.

That isn't you measuring badly. Curtains come in 84, 96 or 108 inches. Your ceiling doesn't.

A too-long curtain lying in a heap on the floor, its hem covered in dust and hair

Leave them and the hem sweeps up dust and hair every day. You catch your foot in it carrying the laundry. The robot vacuum tries to eat it.

The fix is to take the hem up a few inches. You don't need a sewing kit to do that.

No sewing machine. No needle. No iron.

A sewing machine and an iron crossed out: neither is needed
  • No sewing. Not one stitch, by hand or by machine. If you can't thread a needle, you can still do this.
  • No iron. The tape sticks on its own. Nothing is heated, so nothing can scorch or melt.
  • No tailor. You do it at home, with the curtain flat on a table or still on the rod.

How to use it: 4 steps

All you need is the roll and a pair of scissors.

Step 1 of 4

Measure

Measure

Hold the curtain where you want it to stop, just clear of the floor, and mark the fold line.

Step 2 of 4

Stick

Stick

Lay the curtain flat. Press the tape along the edge of the fold, paper side up, and cut it at the end.

Step 3 of 4

Peel

Peel

Pull off the white backing paper in one strip.

Step 4 of 4

Fold and press

Fold and press

Fold the hem up along your mark and run your palm firmly along it.

That is the whole job.

One tip: get the fold where you want it before you press. Once a stick-on hem is pressed down it is hard to move.

This one is made to go in the wash

Everyone asks this about stick-on hem tape, and they are right to. Here is what buyers of ordinary stick-on hem tapes say in Amazon reviews of other brands (not our product):

“Came Off After the First Wash”
“Cannot be washed”
“nothing was achieved but little balls of sticky tape”

Putting it on

Some types need an iron
Peel, stick and press by hand

Crivanto hem tape is designed for machine washing and drying. When the curtains need cleaning, they go in the machine. Follow the care label on the curtain itself.

Once the hem is on, you can iron over it too.

An iron gliding over a finished curtain hem

From the front, all you see is a straight edge

The tape sits inside the fold. There is no stitch line and there are no pins. What shows is a flat hem hanging just off the floor.

On very sheer fabric any tape can show through in strong light. Try a short piece at the side edge first.

Heavy or blackout curtains get the 3 cm roll

Most stick-on hem tapes are a quarter inch to one inch wide. Our widest roll is 3 cm, about 1.2 inches. A wider strip means more of the hem is stuck down.

Three rolls of white hem tape in 1 cm, 2 cm and 3 cm widths

And because nothing is heated, no hot iron goes near a coated blackout backing while you apply it.

One roll does up to about 6 curtain panels

Each roll is 9.1 m (10 yd). With one strip per hem, that is up to about 6 standard curtain panels, or roughly three windows.

  • 3 cm · Heavy & blackout. Our pick for most curtains.
  • 2 cm · Regular curtains.
  • 1 cm · Sheers & small hems.

Doing more than one room, or want a spare for the shower curtain and tablecloth? The multi-roll bundles above cost less per roll.

Questions people ask

Will it come off in the wash?

It is designed for machine washing and drying. That is the difference from ordinary stick-on tapes, where coming off in the wash is a common complaint in buyer reviews. Follow the care label on your curtains.

Will it hold heavy or blackout curtains?

Choose the 3 cm roll. It is wider than the quarter-inch to one-inch tapes most stores carry, so more of the hem is stuck down. No heat is used, so nothing hot touches a blackout backing. If it doesn't hold on yours, the 30-day guarantee covers you.

Will it look neat? Will the tape show?

The tape is hidden inside the fold, so the front shows a straight edge with no stitches. Very sheer fabric can let any tape show through. Try a short piece first.

Can I iron over it?

Yes. Once the hem is on, you can iron over it. You don't need an iron to apply it. For coated blackout fabric, follow the curtain's own label.

Why does it cost more than craft-store hem tape?

It is wider, up to 3 cm, and it is designed to go through the wash. It costs less than replacing curtains you already paid for, and there is no trip to the tailor. You also have 30 days to send it back.

Is one roll enough?

One roll is 9.1 m (10 yd). That is up to about 6 standard curtain panels with one strip per hem. If you run two rows on a heavy hem, plan on about half that.
